Metal structured packing is a type of packing used in absorption
and distillation columns and chemical reactors. It is formed by
thin corrugated metallic plates or wire gauze, arrangement in a
uniform geometry and neatly piled in the tower. It offers several
advantages such as a large surface area, low pressure drop, uniform
fluids and heat and mass transfer efficiency.
Metal tower packings are composed of small profiles and bellows in
a metallic sheet surface. Furthermore, they offer some advantages
such as lower resistance, uniform distribution of gas-liquid, high
efficiency, big flux and no significant enlargement effect, making
them suitable for both vacuum and pressure operation.
